Connoisseur was founded by Jeffrey Klawans in 1969. For over four decades, Connoisseur has provided the finest 18th and 19th century European antiques to private clients, designers, architects, developers, collectors and museums worldwide. His passion for collecting began when he was very young. His father, Kay Klawans, was an architectural engineer which spawned at an early age, his interest in design. He opened his first showroom in 1969 and since has had 13 showrooms including West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, The Pacific Design Center, Palm Beach Florida and currently has three showrooms in Los Angeles. In 1973, he married Karen Klawans who is from Toronto, Canada. They have been business partners for 38 years. 

The Connoisseur Collection of Fine Antiques® is presented in three showrooms: one on Melrose Place, one three blocks away on La Cienega Blvd. and a 10,000 square foot annex called, Connoisseur Collections. Each showroom offers a highly diverse selection of fine antique furniture, chandeliers, mirrors, art, sculptures and decorative accessories. We offer a prominent selection of one-of-a-kind pieces with an emphasis on beauty, quality, rarity and originality. The totality of Connoisseur’s collection includes over 10,000 pieces. Additionally, there is a large selection of individual collections such as crystal, porcelain, bronzes, art, sculptures, etc., as well as many unique pieces as are in our rare mineral collection.

We also have a Jewelry division at the Melrose Place location offering exquisite estate jewelry from the 1940’s to the 1970’s supervised by Karen Klawans, Graduate Gemologist, GIA. Our clientele is International and we assist with shipping worldwide. Most importantly, we offer unparalleled service to meet our client’s needs and our staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
